[Beijing, China, May 10, 2022] China Telecom and Huawei held a joint press conference today to launch Super TimeFreq Folding, a new innovative 5G-Advanced technology. The technology behind this new advancement as well as the specifics behind its lab tester were discussed during the keynote speeches given by the China Telecom's Deputy General Manager Liu Guiqing and 5G Construction Working Group General Manager Zhang Xin as well as Huawei's Carrier BG President Ryan Ding and Wireless Solution Vice President Gan Bin.

Super TimeFreq Folding launch event

5G industry applications, like machine motion control, multi-machine collaboration, and machine vision AI inspection, have become increasingly essential in core production processes as they mature, increasing company requirements for network latency, reliability, and uplink bandwidth. A latency of 1 ms, 4 ms, and 10 ms, for example, is now required for about 15%, 35%, and 30% of industrial control protocols, respectively. This makes meeting these new network requirements for core production processes an increasingly urgent technical challenge the ICT industry must tackle.

China Telecom and Huawei have working together on developing new technologies to address these challenges for years as they have worked on 5G development. Together, they have already launched a series of new technologies, including the Super Uplink and Super Frequency Fusion, which boost 5G uplink capabilities and raise the utilization of discrete spectrums. As the newest part of the 'Super' series, Super TimeFreq Folding simulates an FDD air interface through uplink and downlink time-domain complementation of dual TDD carriers, leveraging both the large bandwidth of TDD and the low latency of an FDD air interface. On the 3.5 GHz band, Super TimeFreq Folding can provide an uplink equivalent bandwidth of up to 100 MHz and reach an uplink peak rate of more than 1 Gbps while shortening E2E latency from 10 ms to less than 4 ms. The use of mmWave in the future will further slash latency to less than 1 ms. The large uplink bandwidth, low latency, high reliability, and ultra-large network capacity delivered by Super TimeFreq Folding is designed to meet 5G performance requirements for core production processes; help industry customers improve quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiency; and accelerate industry digital transformation.

In the future, the deep convergence of 5G and industrial Internet will open up many new opportunities for carriers and their partners. China Telecom and Huawei stated at the launch event that they are excited to continue working with other industry partners to use 5G to drive high-quality economic development in China.
